The Republic of the Falkland Islands often shortened as just the Falkland Islands or Falklands is a archipelago nation situated in the South of the Atlantic Sea. The nation split away from the Kingdom of England on the 22nd of September 2024 however still remains in the Commonwealth. The Falklands remains similar to England, remaining a democratic government and English culture.

History

Independence

During the great split the Falkland Islands saw a dramatic decrease in its funding and overall autonomy, the English government sought to maintain stricture control on its overseas territories and crown dependencies, including the Falkland Islands. This lead to laws being implemented that saw stricter fishing policies and more restrictions on what can be exported from and too the island as to keep economic control over it. The Falkland economy as a result suffered with it unable exploit its natural geography of its fish and oil.

This would lead to a gradual climb for autonomy from the Kingdom of England, independence was not yet on the table until the English government ordered the arrest of one of the main leaders of the Movement for autonomy, the arrest failed and only soured relations between the Falklanders and the English. The Falkland economy gradually improved however was not as a stable position, the English government however would start taxing the island more as to fund its military during the Reclamation War, this and the force conscription placed upon the island for the Falkland Islands Defence Force would be enough to push for independence from the Kingdom of England.

The governor at the time would call a vote which would become known as the Falklanders vote which was to decide whether to seek independence, the vote being 70% for yes, 24% for no and 6% for unsure with a 82% turnout. The result was set with opposition from the Kingdom of England. Soldiers of the English garrison would end up in a small skirmish against the Falkland Islands Defence Force in which they would loose, the Kingdom of England, still in the midst of the Reclamation war, would seek to levy with the Islanders, Falklands would be granted independence if they remained in the Commonwealth, supported England's war efforts, allowed unrestricted access for the English Armed Forces to use installations on the Falklands and for the Falklands to adopt the English pound sterling, of which the Island agreed, and so on the 22nd of September 2024 the Falklands would declare independence from the Kingdom of England and become a republic, it would still keep the King of England as its ceremonial head of state.
