The Royal Cork Rifles was a proposed infantry regiment of the Corkonian army that would comprise of three battalions[1]

Beret of the RCR

Conception

The idea was that all Provinces would have one infantry regiment, the Royal Cork Rifles would encompass all infantry for Munster, and such the Royal Limerick Cavarly would encompass all Cavarly for Munster, this was the beginning of the Cork Regimental System.

Layout

It was planned too have three battalions of which two were designated too be infantry and one was posed too be a support battalion with a logistics company and two artillery batteries.

Abandonment

It was abandoned due to the change of how regiments were to work, the Royal Cork Rifles was deemed to specific for the requirements of a flexible dynamic force.

Potential reformation

In the Corkonian Armed Forces 2024 Re-Organisation Act it divided the army into corps such as the Air Defence Artillery Corps and infantry corps, these corps suit a specific type of unit, there have been plans for a standard "rifles battalion" which would be primarily infantry.
