The Limerick Insurgency was an event in Kingdom of Corcaigh and Celtic Union
Prelude
The prelude to the conflict began in late December 2023. When the "Limerick peoples militia" carried out firebomb attacks on Garda stations in Limerick, and raided Nenagh barracks seizing old tipperary era weapons and uniforms.
Celtic response
The Celtic government deployed D company of the 3rd infantry battalion, (a reserve company) to put down any possible uprisings.
January 17th
On the 17th of January 2024 soldiers attached to this unit raided homes in the Castletroy area of Limerick. Seizing AKMs, RGD-5 handgrenades, and ratnik bodyarmour.[1]
January 19th
On the 19th of January Celtic troops were ambushed by the LPM, 2 Celtic soldiers were killed.[2]
January 20th
In response to this, the Celtic Army carried out drone recon in the early hours of January 20th, identifying an LPM stronghold. At 10PM that night they conducted a white phosphorous mortar attack on the area, killing a number of LPR militants.[3]
Proclamation of the LPR and beginning of the conflict
At 7PM on January 21st the LPR officially proclaimed itself a people's socialist republic. [4] The proclamation can be found here.
In response to this, further offensive action was taken by the Celtic army on January 21st, with 5 Celts killed and 8 LPR militants killed or wounded, along with 2 captured. [5]
On January 23rd Cork and Celtic combines forces assaulted LPR positions with mortars, white phosphorous, and light vehicles. Fighting lasted upwards of an hour with numerous casualties on both sides, this signified the beginning of the war.
