The Midwest Free Territory (MFT) is a self-proclaimed independent region located in the heartland of North America, encompassing a vast expanse of territory stretching from the Great Lakes to the Great Plains. Founded on principles of anarchism, communism, and mutual aid, the MFT represents a bold experiment in decentralized governance, collective ownership, and direct democracy.

History

Founding and Ideals

The Midwest Free Territory emerged amidst the turbulent currents of a nation in crisis, with America embroiled in a bitter civil conflict between competing factions vying for control of the country's future. The Federal Republic of Western Forces, asserting its authority over much of the west coast and swiftly advancing through southern states, clashed with the "legitimate" government in Washington DC, which had regathered its forces in preparation to restore order across the USA. In the Midwest, the massive labour union, the Social Vanguard League, declared illegal by the federal government, spearheaded the formation of the MFT, further exacerbating the already fractured political landscape.

At the heart of the MFT's founding lies the Second Congress of the Social Vanguard League, a pivotal gathering held in Chicago, Illinois on April 27th, 2024. League members from across the Midwest converged to forge a new path forward, inspired by the rich tapestry of labor struggles, and socialist movements that have long characterised the region. United by a common vision of autonomy, solidarity, and direct democracy, they proclaimed the birth of the Midwest Free Territory, a beacon of defiance in a country beset by turmoil and strife.

Drawing inspiration from the historic labor struggles of the region and the revolutionary fervor sweeping the region, the founders of the MFT articulated a bold vision for a society free from the shackles of capitalism, state repression, and corporate domination. They envisioned a world where power resides in the hands of the people, where decisions are made through consensus and workers' organisation, and where resources are shared equitably for the common good.

Rise and Resistance

Following the historic congress, a groundswell of popular resistance swept across the American Midwest. The congress served as a rallying cry for the dispossessed and marginalized, as delegates from diverse backgrounds and walks of life converged to chart a course toward liberation. Buoyed by the spirit of solidarity and defiance, they emerged from the congress emboldened and united in their determination to challenge the status quo and build a better future.

Across the region, communities were electrified by the promise of change, as whispers of liberation echoed through the streets and alleyways of towns and cities alike. The historic March on Minneapolis on May 1st, 2024, marked the culmination of this groundswell of resistance. On International Workers' Day, tens of thousands of workers, activists, and ordinary citizens flooded the streets of Minneapolis, their voices raised in a chorus of defiance against the forces of oppression and exploitation. Led by the Social Vanguard League, the march became a symbol of hope and liberation, inspiring solidarity and resistance in the face of adversity.

As the people of the League marched for their rights, their horde only grew in size. Destroying government buildings such as police stations along the way, the march eventually reached the nextdoor city of St. Paul. Protestors gathered at the steps of the Minnesota Capitol Building, demanding accountability from state officials and challenging the entrenched power structures that had long dominated the political landscape. In a moment of defiance, they stormed the Capitol grounds, violently clashing with state authorities and capturing several politicians and government officials. The clash with the state government marked a turning point in the struggle for autonomy and self-determination in the heartland of America, as the people of the League stood firm in their commitment to building a better future for all.

This period of intense activism and resistance was not without its challenges and sacrifices. The MFT faced relentless opposition from external adversaries and internal divisions, as the FRWF and the government in Washington D.C. sought to undermine its autonomy and sovereignty. However, amidst the chaos and uncertainty, the spirit of resistance burned bright within the MFT community. United by a shared vision of freedom and justice, they continued to defy the forces of oppression and exploitation, forging a new path forward guided by the principles of workers' solidarity.
