The Army Ranger Wing is the special operations branch of the Corkonian Army, it was established in the Corkonian Armed Forces 2024 Re-Organisation Act in which a call for a team tasked with special operations, such as sabotage, infiltration, airborne and counter terrorism would be needed.

History

Previous Special Forces

An old decommissioned "Training Area" for the C.P.G
A Cork Presidential Guard Uniform

In Cork during the 2020-2022 period the main special operations unit was the "Cork Presidential Guard" (C.P.G) of which their goal was too protect and serve the Ceannaire[1] directly. This unit though was extremely ineffective, disorganised and was eventually decommissioned when it proved incapable of performing its duties of which were not even needed. The C.P.G was one of many S.O.F (Special Operations Forces) units within the Corkonian Army, others included the "Men In Black"[2] and the previous airborne troops however they were removed from the special forces designation.

The Corkonian Presidential Guard served as an example of what not too do with special forces, throughout Cork's history from 2022 onwards there were no attempts to re-establish a special forces unit. However, this did not ensure the Corkonian Army did not have units designated for special tasks, the Airborne and Marine corps were designated too be Special Operations Forces with their goals being infiltration and specialised assaults on enemies.

During the Dalmatian Offensive the Corkonian Army detached the 1st Foreign Response Company, this in itself was seen as the first attempt since the Cork Presidential Guard too create a special operations forces and one that can be deployed across the European continent at will. The 1st Foreign Response Company itself was not special forces however it was not a part of the regular army, it was an independent company that was haste fully thrown together consisting of troops from existing units,

Overtime as Cork's position on the world stage dwindled and its army becoming less deployed the need for special operation units diminished and so the Special Operations Forces were completely removed in favour of regular infantry. There was a period in the Corkonian Army in which there was airborne and marine troops, additionally it was proposed numerous times too establish new special forces with the Corkonian Government announcing plans four times for new special forces.

Creation

Under "Future Warfare" Section §1.F Corkonian Armed Forces 2024 Re-Organisation Act it states that the Corkonian Army would established a Battalion sized unit tasked with cross-world special operations and explicitly purposed to be designed around the Celtic Union's own Army Ranger Wing. The creation was ordered by the King of Cork grandhappy who stated "With our position in the world, both geographically, historically and geopolitcally, with previous threats such as the The Incursion, the Cork-Lietuvan War and numerous other conflicts, we need a force that can deploy across the world in three days or less, a force that can project our ideals and protect our sovereignty in lands not considered home."

Roles

The Army Ranger Wing roles are divided between "wartime" operations ("Green Role") and anti-terrorism ("Black Role"), the latter known formally as military Aid to the Civil Power (ATCP). All taskforces are trained in both Black and Green roles.

Military Tasks (Green Role)

  • securing of vital objectives
  • long-range reconnaissance patrol (LRRP)
  • razzias (raids)
  • ambushes
  • sabotage
  • capture of key personnel
  • diversionary operations
  • intelligence gathering
  • VIP protection
  • counter-insurgency
  • training in and conduct of specialist operations
  • delay operations

Aid to the civil power tasks (Black Role)

  • anti-hijack operations
  • hostage rescue operations
  • airborne and seaborne interventions
  • search operations - specialist tasks on land or sea
  • pursuit operations
  • recapture of terrorist-held objectives
  • VIP security operations/close protection of VIPs
  • contingency planning to counter terrorist/subversive threats

Name and motto

The name of the Army Ranger Wing derives entirely from the real life [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Ranger_Wing Army Ranger Wing] of the Irish Army. The motto however is different, it comes from the fact the first special forces unit with completely loyal too the then leader of Cork, however now the Army Ranger Wing is loyal too the king but swears loyalty too the country.

Structure

The Officer Commanding the Army Ranger Wing is responsible for the administrative, disciplinary and operational control of the unit, and is in turn directly under the command of the Chief of Staff at Defence Forces Headquarters (DFHQ). Information on the numerical strength of the unit and the identity of its personnel is restricted. Estimates variously put the strength at around two or one companies. The Wing is divided into operational companies and those themselves are divided into task units each comprising several assault teams relative to each operator's area of speciality. An example of an operational task unit is the Special Operations Maritime Task Unit (SOMTU). Support elements provide expertise in bomb disposal, medical treatment, maritime and aviation operations. The Army Ranger Wing is headquartered at the Armed Forces Headquarters based in Collin's Barracks, County Cork. Training is carried out nationwide at a number of Department of Armed Forces properties, including Lynch Camp in Kilworth, County Cork.

Selection and training

All candidates must be serving members of the Armed Forces and can be in any of the three branches (Army, Airforce, Navy). The candidate must speak fluent English and have attained the rank of private 3 star (or equivalent if not in army). There is no age limit to attempt selection (except 13+ as all candidates need too be in the Discord). All candidates must have a perfect military record, have been deployed once, have had no ((roplay)) criminal record and be in no other armed forces (when it comes to ronations).

  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • Skills and Leadership
  • SOF Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs)
  • Continuation Training

Module one

Module one assesses the candidates level of competence and ability and suitability. All candidates must past to progress onto further modules, any form of failure results in immediate expulsion from the course. During this module candidates are put to the test on their knowledge of the ACS medical system, acs itself, drill, formations and communications. Users must prove they are competent to listen to orders and act independently and as a team in order to pursue goals and objectives.

Module two

Module two trains candidates on leadership and skills, this could include speciality training like snipers, close quarters combat, engineering and more. Leadership is additionally to pick out new NCOs.

Module three

Module three trains candidates on special operations tactics, including seaborne attacks, airborne attacks, close quarters combat, how to deal with ambushes, forest warfare, winter warfare, mountainous warfare and more.

Module four

Module four extends on all previous modules, if candidate pass this they officially become an army ranger and are entitled too more than 53,000 Corkonian Punts in RoPlay.

The Army Ranger Wing has its own purpose built tactical training facilities all across the country, including shooting ranges, kill houses and various urban and rural settings, a lot of these are on existing military bases however some are purpose built only for SOF. The main facility is known as "Tallaght"[3] and is in County Donegal, other ranges can be found in County Wicklow, County Cork, County Mayo and Cornwall, these facilities are also made available too the Territorial support group (cork). These facilities are also used by the Celtic Army Ranger Wing.
